Women’s League Appeal 2010-11

Annie Margaret Barr Children’s Village, Kharang, India

The Unitarian minister, Rev Annie Margaret Barr made her home in India between the two world wars. Her home was in the Khasi Hills. Here she ran an orphanage, a school and trained two women as midwives. A health clinic was opened. The Orphanage was closed when Margaret Barr died, but now land has been handed over to a new charity to provide a new orphanage.

The British General Assembly, thanks mainly to the Women's League, has provided money to complete the access roads and toilet facilities.

This year 3 "Mothers" have been trained to look after 24 new residents of the orphanage. Money is needed to help run the project and the money which the Women's League hopes to raise will go towards a children’s library and entertainment lounge.
